The Damage 47.3% of all acreage burned in the United States in 2011 was burned in Texas. 3,959,040 acres burned (size of state of Connecticut) Bastrop County Complex Fire engulfed Bastrop, Texas and by September 30 had destroyed 1,645 homes, burned 34,068 acres, and killed two people. This fire is now regarded as the most catastrophic wildfire in Texas history. Across the State 23 counties were impacted by the Wildfires that occurred in September 2011.

1.Important to have established relationships prior to the Disaster. 2.Critical for VOAD to work with the Office of Emergency Management, County Judge, TDEM and FEMA during a disaster. 3. Tabletop exercises and Disaster response and recovery planning create successful outcomes.
