Even though it was very complex, it unified china Calligraphy uses different brush strokes, so only real masters could read and write it; this is why mandarin is the hardest language to learn. It’s not just writing it is a an expression of ones self Before calligraphy there was oracle bones, where priest would write questions addressed to the god and how ever they cracked under fire that was the answer. The first books where formed in the Zhou period.
