4 Artist and Thinkers New American Artist and Writers wrote about hope and optimism (because of the industrial revolution) Examples: Washington Irving’s book Rip Van Winkle Main character goes to sleep while his colonial home is still part of Britain and awakens to the new U.S.A. after the American Revolution James Fenimore Cooper’s book The Last of the Mohicans Life of Native American Indians in the West.
