2 Goals and objectives of the database Reporting to national and international institutions Supplying waste management planners at national, regional and local level with information. Functionality as a working tool for the Ministry of Environment and the regional inspectorates.

Requirements of the information system Simple, efficient and cost-effective: needs to contain all information which is necessary for the purposes defined. Transparent: it needs to be clear how information is gathered, what the value of the information is and what the weaknesses in the data collection and processing process are. Accessibility of information: public access and access for those who need the information in the different ministries and institutions need to be well organised. Flexibility: it should be possible to add new parts to the database, to extend it, to add new queries to it, etc… Compatibility: the system should be compatible with the national environmental information system.
