The Metric System A way of measuring based on multiples of 10.
Length Measured with a meter stick or ruler. Basic unit is the meter. Often km, m, or cm.
Volume Measured with a graduated cylinder or a ruler. Basic unit is a liter. Often ml or cm³.
Read at the meniscus
Mass Measured with a balance. Basic unit is the gram. Usually kg, g, or mg.
Reading the balance
Temperature Measured with a thermometer. Basic unit is °C.
