There are times when a client presents problems of such severity that they are inappropriate for therapy or may be beyond the competence of a specific therapist. For example:- A client might benefit from being prescribed anti-depressants by a doctor. Ethical boundaries may also indicate the desirability of referral to avoid therapy with friends and colleagues.
