IS EPHESIANS 4:5 WET? There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. – Ephesians 4:4-6 The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.

NOW – PAUL SAY’S BY AD.64 THERE IS “ONE BAPTISM” WHICH ONE IS IT: HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM? Or WATER BAPTISM?

A FEW FACTS TO NOTE ABOUT HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM Holy Spirit Baptism Always A Promise …. NEVER A Command. –Matt. 3:11 --- "He shall baptize you...” –Mk. 1:8 --- "He shall baptize you with the H.S.” –Lk. 3:16 --- "He shall baptize you with the H.S.” –John 1:33 --- ".. the same is He which... the H.S.” –Acts 1:5 --- "... ye shall be baptized with the H.S.” –Acts 11:16 --- "... ye shall be baptized with the H.S."

POINTS TO BE NOTED ABOUT HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM Jesus Christ is the administrator of H.S. baptism not men. Jesus Christ is the administrator of H.S. baptism not men. It was promised to some who either had, or could have received John's baptism. It was promised to some who either had, or could have received John's baptism. The promise of the H.S. baptism was made only to some in John's generation! NOT unto You and Me! The promise of the H.S. baptism was made only to some in John's generation! NOT unto You and Me!

THE GREAT COMMISION AND THE COMMAND Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (Mt. 28:19) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mk. 16:15-16) –The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.

IS PREACHING CHRIST LINKED TO WATER BAPTISM? A SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLE A SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLE – –Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. (36) And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. TO WHICH DENOMINATION WAS HE BEING BAPTIZED INTO? TO WHICH DENOMINATION WAS HE BEING BAPTIZED INTO?

DO SCHOLARS AGREE WITH THIS? “BAPTISM” - (Baptisma) “BAPTISM” - (Baptisma) – BAGD: “(found only in Christian writers) baptism....The person baptized is, as it were, buried with Christ Col 2:12; 1 Pt 3:21....” (A Greek-English Lexicon Of The New Testament And Other Early Christian Literature, p. 132) –Joseph Thayer: “a word peculiar to N.T. and eccl writ., immersion, submersion.... 3. of Christian baptism; this, according to the view of the apostles, is a rite of sacred immersion, commanded by Christ....” (A Greek-English Lexicon Of The New Testament, #908, pp. 94-95) –W. E. Vine: “baptism, consisting of the processes of immersion, submersion and emergence (from bapto, to dip)....” (The Expanded Vine’s Expository Dictionary Of New Testament Words, p. 88)

DO SCHOLARS AGREE WITH THIS? Cont. THE COMMENTATORS ON “BURIED” THE COMMENTATORS ON “BURIED” – –Cunningham (Episcopalian): “Baptism means immersion; and it was immersion....Unless it had been so, Paul’s analogical argument about our being buried with Christ in baptism would have had no meaning. Nothing could have been simpler than baptism in its first form. When a convert declared his faith in Christ, he was taken at once to the nearest pool or stream of water and plunged into it, and henceforward he was recognized as one of the Christian community.” (The Growth Of The Church, p. 173) – –John Tillotson (Archbishop of Canterbury): “Anciently those who were baptized were immersed, and buried in the water, to represent their death to sin; and then did rise up out of the water to signify their entrance upon a new life. And to these customs the Apostle alludes.” (Works, Vol. I, p. 179, via Hiscox, p. 213) – –Huldreich Zwingli: “When ye were immersed into the water by baptism, ye were ingrafted into the death of Christ.” (Annot. Rom. 6:4, via Hiscox, p. 213)

DO SCHOLARS AGREE WITH THIS? Cont. George Whitefield: “It is certain that in the words of our text [Rom. 6:3, 4,] there is an allusion to the manner of baptism, which was by immersion.” (Eighteen Sermons, p. 297, via Hiscox, p. 213) George Whitefield: “It is certain that in the words of our text [Rom. 6:3, 4,] there is an allusion to the manner of baptism, which was by immersion.” (Eighteen Sermons, p. 297, via Hiscox, p. 213) Bishop John Fell: “The primitive fashion of immersion under the water, representing our death, and elevation again out of it, our resurrection or regeneration.” (Note on Rom. 6:4, via Hiscox, p. 213) Bishop John Fell: “The primitive fashion of immersion under the water, representing our death, and elevation again out of it, our resurrection or regeneration.” (Note on Rom. 6:4, via Hiscox, p. 213) Adam Clarke (Methodist): “Alluding to the ‘immersion’ practiced in the case of ‘adults’, wherein the person appeared to be buried under the water, as Christ was buried in the heart of the earth. His rising again the third day, and their emerging from the water, was an emblem of the resurrection of the body.” (Commentary on Colossians 2:12, via Cope, p. 4) Adam Clarke (Methodist): “Alluding to the ‘immersion’ practiced in the case of ‘adults’, wherein the person appeared to be buried under the water, as Christ was buried in the heart of the earth. His rising again the third day, and their emerging from the water, was an emblem of the resurrection of the body.” (Commentary on Colossians 2:12, via Cope, p. 4)

DO SCHOLARS AGREE WITH THIS? Cont. Lightfoot (Episcopalian): “Baptism is the grave of the old man and the birth of the new. As he sinks beneath the baptismal waters, the believer buries there all his corrupt affections and past sins; as he emerges thence he rises regenerate, quickened to new hopes and a new life. This baptism is an image of his participation both in the death and resurrection of Christ.” (Commentary, via Cope, p. 5) Lightfoot (Episcopalian): “Baptism is the grave of the old man and the birth of the new. 5) Tholuck (Lutheran): “For the explanation of this figurative description of the baptismal rite, it is necessary to call attention to the well-known circumstance that in the early days of the church, persons, when baptized, were first plunged below and then raised above the water.” (Commentary On Romans, via Cope, p. 5) John Wesley: “Buried with Him -- alluding to the ancient manner of baptizing by immersion.” (Note on Romans 6:4, via Hiscox, p. 213)

THE “ONE BAPTISM” THAT REMAINS IS WATER BAPTISM This "One Baptism" is water baptism. Consider: Matt. 28:19-20 ; Note in A.D. 64 Peter wrote --- I Peter 3:20-21. This "One Baptism" is water baptism. Consider: Matt. 28:19-20 ; Note in A.D. 64 Peter wrote --- I Peter 3:20-21. One can not have both Holy Spirit Baptism and water Baptism --- and still have "ONE BAPTISM" One can not have both Holy Spirit Baptism and water Baptism --- and still have "ONE BAPTISM"
