3 Did you know? …kids today spend an average of over 20 hours per week in front of a screen? …That’s like having a part time job, without pay!

4 Did you know? …kids watch over 2300 hours of television a year? …And they are only in school 900 hours!

5 Watching television can increase the amount kids snack Did you know?

6 Did You Know… Teens need 8.5 to 9 hours of sleep each night Younger kids need even more: 5-12 year olds 10-11 hours 3-5 year olds 11-13 hours And screen time can rob them of much needed sleep!

7 How do you help kids reduce screen time? Set firm limits for watching TV, playing video games and using the computer When you watch TV, watch together and talk about what you watched Get active when you watch TV~!

8 How do you help kids reduce screen time? Make your family’s bedrooms “no screen zones.” Turn off the TV during dinner Don’t use TV time as a reward or punishment

9 Did you know? Kids should be MVPA at least 60 minutes each day!

10 What’s MVPA? Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity Riding a bike, dancing, soccer You should probably be breathing hard, sweating, your heart rate goes up. You are expending energy!

11 Timely Tips… No video games on school nights Volunteer together! Make you kids part of the conversation when you decide how much screen time.

12 Timely Tips… Be a good role model. Limit your own screen time. Tell them how important sleep is to their ability to focus, even how they look.

13 Are your Kids Active at School? Does your school have recess? Are kids active at least half the time they are in PE? Do teachers use activity breaks during class?
