1 Expressive Unit/Art Studies/Homework tasks To prepare for the written Prelim in January and the written exam in May complete the following tasks. If you have been completing written questions on Portraiture then go to slide 2, if you have been completing written questions on Still-Life go to slide 3. Print out or write out responses and hand in to your teacher on the first Art and Design Expressive Unit/Art Studies/Portrait Copies of all homework tasks set by Mr. Hogarth are included here and will be updated as more are set.

2 Expressive Unit/Art Studies/Portrait You should have completed three homework tasks – Responding to a Portrait and writing 10 clear points about the subject and use of Visual Elements. This was to prepare you for Question (a) in the written exam. The next task is to prepare for Question (b) – Write 10 points (Int 2) or 20 points (Higher) about TWO portrait artists you have looked at and TWO artworks they have made. Choose another portrait artist from the list below - Francis Bacon Pablo Picasso Mary Cassatt Henri Matisse Alison Watt Vincent Van Gogh James Guthrie Henri Toulouse-Lautrec Paul Gauguin Chaim Soutine Andy Warhol Peter Howson William McCance Frida Kahlo Chuck Close Peter Blake William Strang Jules Bastien-Lepage To Do - Go on to the internet. Keyword search one artist’s name you have chosen Find a high quality picture of a portrait by the artist. Write Title and any other information about Portrait. Copy and Paste portrait into a document and print it out. Or, complete task by hand and make a small sketch of portrait. Write 10 points about the specific portrait using the help sheets form your yellow folder. You must write about – The subject in the portrait. How the Artist uses the visual elements to tell the viewer about the subject. How the Visual Elements have been used to make a successful portrait.

This was to prepare you for Question (a) in the written exam. The next task is to prepare for Question (b) – Write 10 points (Int 2) or 20 points (Higher) about TWO portrait artists you have looked at and TWO artworks they have made.
