3 Background The Iditarod is the worlds largest dogsled race. It is held the first part of March every year. The trail, which is over one thousand miles long, begins in Anchorage, Alaska, and ends in Nome. Past races have taken from 11-32 days to finish. In the past this sport has drawn little attention in the lower 48, but with the invention of global technology, you and your students will literally feel like you are on the trail!

4 All facets of the curriculum are incorporated into this fascinating unit. No matter the age, your students will enjoy learning about our countrys Last Great Frontier. This unit coordinates with MAP skills and Show- Me Standards We have tried to list various age level lessons and activities to meet your needs Rationale
