2 Avena genetic resources for quality in human consumption (AVEQ) Startup Meeting, Clermont Ferrand 2007 Project Management and Coordination through an internet portal Scientific coordination of the implementation of the action - Ensure working of logistics. -> Project web applications will be available for: - Ensure orthogonality of field and lab work. - Ensure inclusion of results into an online accessible database. - Statistical analysis and generation of knowledge from the data. -Generate fieldplans according an agreed randomization design: suggested design: augmented randomized block design -Generate downloadable pdf and Excel sheets for data acquisition in the field including methodology description -Downloadable lab protocols including methodology description and sample lists -Upload or online input of project results including pictures

3 Avena genetic resources for quality in human consumption (AVEQ) Startup Meeting, Clermont Ferrand 2007 Project Platform and Web Application - The project platform consists of two parts 1.A content management system (Typo 3) holding description of objectives, actions and means involved, list of partners and of sponsors, link to the European Avena Database, link to a test and productive version of the web application file upload and download mechanism 2.A web application (JEE 5, JBoss) for interactive work with the project database (MySQL) and the EADB (Oracle)

7 Avena genetic resources for quality in human consumption (AVEQ) Startup Meeting, Clermont Ferrand 2007 Web application - Generate Fieldplan: Ontology Working collection: Subset of accessions selected from different sources to be used in a project Evalution: Plan for characterisation and evaluation of a subset of the working collection in a certain vegetation period (Field) experiment: Arrangement of treatment - accession combinations (treatments) in a certain randomisation design (experiment = randomization unit) Fieldplan: Layout of the field design for a certain experiment (matrix of plots arranged in lanes) Lane: Track of the sowing device, contains a (certain) number of rows. Plot: Sowing unit in the lane with a certain treatment / accession Row: Single line of plants

8 Avena genetic resources for quality in human consumption (AVEQ) Startup Meeting, Clermont Ferrand 2007 Web application - Generate Fieldplan: Roles and Workflow The project group decides on a set of accessions for a certain evaluation The coordinator initializes the evaluation and its set of accessions in the project database: this ensures orthogonality of accessions evaluated on different sites in one year. Project partners define online their experiment (name) with their restrictions: number of plots per lane (determined by their field size) and generate their adapted randomized field plan
