U.S. Department of the Interior U.S. Geological Survey USGS Emergency Operations Natural Hazards Support and Monitoring Geospatial Data Support and Acquisition

USGS Mission USGS serves the nation by providing reliable scientific information: As an unbiased, multi-disciplinary science organization that focuses on biology, geography, geology, geospatial information, and water Is dedicated to the timely, relevant, and impartial study of the landscape, our natural resources, and the natural hazards that threaten us.

Minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters such as: Landslides Earthquakes Volcanic Activity Flooding Wildfires Biological Diseases USGS Mission

The over arching goal of the program is To: make relevant remote sensing and earth science data available to customers In a way that: is fast, efficient, and easy to use So that: deaths, injuries, property damage, economic losses, and human suffering caused by disasters are minimized And can be measured by: timeliness of response, accuracy of response, utility of products, and customer satisfaction. USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Emergency Operations

Coordination of Federal Geospatial Activities Coordinate calls for geospatial activities Led by staff at USGS EROS Frequency driven by need Coordinating Federal civil requirements, data acquisitions, information delivery in preparation for, during and after events Identification of data, information, and services to be coordinated for use across the community

Coordination of Federal Geospatial Activities FEMAS executive agent for the acquisition and coordination of commercial and civil government aerial and satellite remote sensing during national disaster response operations
