2. Hillside’s Goal  Hillside Family of Agencies provides individualized health, education, and human services in partnership with children, youth, adults, and their families through an integrated system of care.

3. HILLSIDE PROGRAMS  Each school has an assigned class room in the building run by Mike Olson, in this building hillside offers a full gym, exercise room, recording studio, computer lab, kitchen and locker room for these kids. Mark was in charge of chapel across the streets.  They have programs that teach the students how to cook, work out, garden, play sports, and other activities.

4. What we did here  During my time at Hillside I spent the majority of the time across the street inside the Hillside Chapel working mainly with the student from ICT “Institute of central Technology” on Mondays from 2:30 to 5:30  Not a lot of students came from this school, and the ones that did were regulars, so you got to know the student pretty well.  The other tutors and myself would sit down with a few students each working on the same subject and help them understand and complete their work.  Some of the days when there was not allot of student we would continually circulate around the room and check on the children, and if they seemed to be doing their work well without any problems we would go across the street and go in out of the rooms of the other schools and see what was needed for tutors for all the other schools  There was NEVER enough Math tutors.

5. What I learned from my experience  During my time at Hillside I learned a lot of things, not only about the children there but myself.  The children there are not bad kids, they are there trying to do the right thing, doing their homework, preparing for SAT and ACT test and Regents Final exams  After talking with some of the kids, it is clear to see they don’t come from the best of situations, and it would be extremely easy for them to just quite, but they don’t. ( And if they were really that bad, they wouldn’t becoming to the program, involuntarily or not)  After beginning at Hillside I have begun volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House as well.  After volunteering here me and a fellow volunteer from the Ronald McDonald house have been discussing a plan to-do a summer program with the students from Hillside, possibly within their annual garden.

9. AWNSER  All of the above, Hillside does all these things and more. They helps students and their families succeed in school & life, as they help them strive for a brighter tomorrow by giving them the resources to prosper. Thanks to many volunteers and their school advocates.
