2 National Science Foundation Mission of EHR To achieve excellence in U.S science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education at all levels and in all settings (both formal and informal) in order to support the development of a diverse and well- prepared workforce of scientists, technicians, engineers, mathematicians and educators and a well-informed citizenry that have access to the ideas and tools of science and engineering.

3 National Science Foundation Goals of the EHR Portfolio 1.Prepare the next generation of STEM professionals and attract more Americans to STEM careers. 2.Increase the technological and scientific literacy of all Americans.

6 National Science Foundation HRD Programs - Broadening Participation Minorities and Minority Serving Institutions:  Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate Program (AGEP)  Centers for Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST)  Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU-UP)  The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Program (LSAMP)  Tribal Colleges and Universities Program (TCUP)

7 National Science Foundation Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) DUE programs aim to strengthen and ensure the vitality of undergraduate STEM education for: science, mathematics, or engineering majors; students in science and engineering technology programs; future teachers at the elementary and secondary school levels; and non-science majors seeking scientific and technical literacy.

8 National Science Foundation DUE Programs STEM Talent Expansion Program (STEP) Seeks to increase the number of students (U.S. citizens or permanent residents) and receiving associate or baccalaureate degrees in established or emerging fields within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). http://www.ehr.nsf.gov/ehr/DUE/programs/step/
