Executive Branch Project ByGrant, Patrick, and last but not least… Duncan

The duties of the Executive Branch The Executive Branch has many responsibilities. Its main duty is to carry out laws, but there are many other things they can do. They can veto laws made by Congress, the Legislative Branch, but if two thirds of congress override the veto, the law will still be passed. The president, who is head of the Executive Branch, is also the commander in chief of the armed forces, so he can control the military. The executive branch also is the one to decide whether or not to sign treaties with other countries.

The Checks and Balances of the Executive Branch They can appoint judges for the Supreme Court They can force spendings when the two houses of Congress can’t agree. They can veto laws or approve laws. They can call emergency callings for both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Appoints ambassadors.

What Life Would be Like Without the Executive Branch Our government would be different without the Executive Branch. The president, the head of Executive Branch, commands the military, but, if the Executive Branch did not exist, the military would be useless because no one can send them out to battle. Also, the laws probably would be easier to break, because the Executive Branch enforces the laws of our government. Plus, since the Executive Branch approves the laws, so laws could be extremely ridiculous if they passed the Judicial Branch. If we didn't have the Executive Branch, the balance of the government would be out of place, and another branch of government could overpower everyone.

Current Event Analysis In Egypt, at least 365 people have died because of the government protests that took place for eighteen days. Hosni Mubarak is the leader of the health department, and he has calculated that about 365 civilians were killed in the eighteen days of unrest, making it the first official counting. A huge number of Egyptian citizens died in the outrage. The main sources of this massacre were hired thugs and police, who supported the government. This could not happen in the United State of America for many reasons. Because of our right to petition, we probably wouldn’t have to get violent in order to change our government. Also, we have the freedom of speech, so we can say what we want about the government and not expect to be injured by a thug. If people were to protest about their government in the U.S., the government will most likely change the law to make the people happy. Also if the Legislative Branch decided to make a law to be able to send out thugs, then the other branches of government could check them so the law couldn’t be passed.
