9 WHY disseminating research is important: Improve you academic profile Develop you career and finding future employment Improve your research Feedback from an academic community Generate ideas and contribute to a wider debate Impact on current practice Promote understanding and share knowledge

10 Tips for Writing Journal Papers Start planning asap! –Timetable with your supervisors when to work on papers –Think big..! What part of your thesis to disseminate? –Results? Theory? Methodology? –Ask yourself what story is most interesting to you How to select the right journal –Look at which journals repeatedly appear in your literature review –If you are not yet in the habit of searching articles on your subject matter – you should be! Co-authoring & Writing –Typically you would co-author a paper with your supervisors –Do not shut yourself away – involve peers and colleagues A.K.A Networking!

11 for Research Dissemination… Network… collaborate… peer support It’s okay to start small and start early (low risk) Look and listen to others Stay focused and on topic Enjoy sharing your research Use small grant applications and funding for conferences Utilise opportunities to disseminate work locally (seminars, PG conferences etc.)
