1 Unit 9: Assignment 1 Figure 1, Spreadsheet. Matt Pratley
BTEC Level 2 I.T and Creative Technologies Course Code - JFAA101P I.D

2 Who uses Spreadsheets? Why are they used?
Spreadsheets are used by a large proportion of companies and educational purposes. For example, an engineer will need to perform thousands of calculations when It comes to designing architecture e.g. Cars, Buildings. Another example would be a Scientist. They may need to keep results from their experiments recorded, this would make it a lot easier to organise everything. Designed for organisation Easy access Simple to understand An example of an Engineers work ( Pond Routing ) Figure 2

3 Tools and Techniques IF Formula – Checks whether a condition is met, and returns one value if TRUE, and another value if FALSE (logical_test, [value_if_true], [value_if_false]) VLOOKUP Formula – VLOOKUP is used to search the first column in a range of cells on the same row. (lookup_value, table_array, col_index_num, [range_lookup] ) SUMIF – This is when a range of cells are given a specific criteria, and are made calculate information. (range,Criteria,sum_range) Figure 4 A VLOOKUP example Figure 3, A IF eample

4 An example of two Spreadsheets

5 The Purpose the both Spreadsheets?
Shows their budget and money available A huge amount of data for item in their inventory The number of activities and their cost A empty label ready to be filled with information The amount of resources needed for each activity Includes instructions on how to use the spreadsheet The total cost of the each event Terms of use Their budget available throughout the year Both well laid out in terms of design Contains a lot more data overall

6 The purpose of the Tools and Techniques in both Spreadsheets
Using =SUM Table Formatting IF Formula =SUM

7 The Strengths and Weaknesses of the Spreadsheets
Easy to read Does not contain a lot of information Well laid out spreadsheet Tricky to understand at first Does not show the stock of resources Lack of Techniques

8 Spreadsheet 2 Strengths Weaknesses Contains a lot of information
Not user friendly Uses a decent amount of formulas Easy to read and well laid out Contains an instruction guide Sorted out into tabs
