 Interested in Forensic Science › Watching investigating shows  CSI, CSI NY, CSI Miami  Bones  NCIS  Some Background information › Took Bio-Med  Hit the topic of forensic science.

 Wanted to learn more about Forensics › How to collect evidence › How to file a report for crime scene  Always been fascinated with DNA and blood samples  Always wanted to help catch criminals.

 Origins › Start of forensics date back to 1980 BC › Blood test,1862, Van Deen › Four blood types, founded in 1900, Karl Landsteiner › AFIS (Automatic Fingerprint ID System), 1977

 College › Law and Communication classes › Bachelors degree in Physics, biology, microbiology, chemistry, medical technology, genetics. › High school and college level biology and chemistry.  Job Training › Analyzing DNA › Traditional Science Program › Examine and dissect real body › Hand and eye coordination

 DNA › Hair samples, blood, body fluids, finger print, skin cells › Liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, Scientific computers  Modern Testing › Microscopes, 3-D computer imaging › Graphology › Finger print powder › GSA swabs

 The Crime Scene › Evidence technicians  Take pictures, videotape or draw crime scene  Finger prints, hair, gun shells, cartridge cases  Measurements  Height of fall, gun shells, size of body  Documentation › Take notes of crime scene, visual evidence › Envelope, plastic bag, paper bags › Seal, mark, box

 The product chosen was forensic science. I learned: › How to secure crime scene › How to collect evidence › How to take figure prints › How to measure evidence/crime scene

 Stanly Community college › 2 years  GTCC (for BLET) › 18 weeks ( Basic Law Enforcement Training)  High Point PD › 13 months  Archdale PD › 7.5 years

 The total number of hours spent: 17hrs.  My product and research connected because I did my research on forensic science.pmy product was a mock crime scene with Detective Jones. I feel like I have a better understanding of what forensics/detectives do, because I was able to be hands on.

 I have learned: › Secure crime scene › Properly collect evidence › Question suspect › Write report  How I learned: › Spending hours with my mentor › Paying attention to what he taught me › Setting up mock crime scene

 Time management  Finding a mentor  Transportation  Working around each others schedule
