1 Math This week had our math test on Time and tests will go home next week. Our next unit is all about money and how to identify coins and count them too. You may want to jump start this difficult concept with your kiddo…we will be using pennies, nickels, and dimes. Reader’s Club During our small group reading time this week our stories talked about nature and how we can help take care of nature. We talked again about the difference between fantasy and realism. Ask your kiddo about the two books they read this week. We illustrated and wrote about what you can to help take care of nature…we made weather word webs…We worked on Starfall on the computers. Plus, we heard the story Froggy Builds a Treehouse. Ask your kiddo to retell this story to you. We are currently working on retelling a story too…with a beginning, middle, and end. Keep working on this skill at home too. Reminders Monday, February 18 th ~ NO SCHOOL! Tuesday, February 19 th ~ Binders go home Friday, February 22 nd ~ Binders are due! FAMILY FUN NIGHT…Movie for Monster’s Inc. Mrs. Hein’s Weekly News February 15, 2013 Language Arts We continued to explore our unit What can I learn when I explore the outdoors! We are learning about our natural resources and the weather and seasons! Our Focus Question this week is: How can I help take care of nature? Ask your child to tell you different ways to help keep our environment clean. Also, this week’s reading strategy has been all about visualizing; seeing a picture in your mind about what you are reading. We have also been working on how to retell a story with Beginning, Middle, and End. We are also working on how to determine the setting in a story too. Please continue to practice this at home as well! Letters for the Week: We are working on sounds again in words and we are working on letters Hh, Aa, and Pp… for beginning, middle, and ending sounds. Your child is getting very good at sounds in isolation but keep encouraging them to sound out complete words and blend the sounds together. Letter and Sound binders WILL go home next week. Valentine’s Day/100 th Day Party Happy Valentine’s Day! We had such a great time at our party this week and enjoyed making our “heart art!” I hope that you enjoyed the special projects your child made for you (all out of hearts!) Thanks for all of the goodies and help! Also, we had such a great time celebrating the 100th day in a very special way! We made awesome glasses, hats, and treats…called “DERDNUH” (which is the word “HUNDRED” backwards! Check out the recipe we sent home and THANK you to everyone for all the goodies for this yummy treat! I would also like to express a “HEART-FELT” thank you for all the special valentines and little gifts that were given to me for Valentine’s day! You are all tooooo sweet! SIGHT WORDS Please continue to practice reading in your child’s book and a new chart will go home next week. STARS of the DAY/ 100 th Day Projects NO ONE THIS WEEK due to the sharing of those AMAZING 100 th Day projects!!! WOW…I am sooooo impressed with the creativity! Way to go everyone…and Thanks so much for all of the snack donations to make our 100 th day party a big success! STARLAB This week we had the opportunity to go and visit the Star Lab which was in our cafeteria. We had fun learning about the star constellations and some important “star facts”….like: The North Star is also named Polaris and is in the handle of the Little Dipper. It never moves in the sky. We also learned about Orion the Hunter and the red star called Betelgeuse. Plus, we also learned about the brightest star in the sky…Sirius! Ask your little astronomer to tell you all about his/her star adventures!
