1 HBCU-UP Update Possibility of new funding opportunities within HBCU-UP in FY 2006 –Education Research Projects Three-year projects, $250K to $350K per year No limit on the number of proposals submitted from an eligible HBCU An HBCU can have several Education Research Projects at a time in addition to other HBCU-UP project types –Targeted Infusion Projects Up to two years, $75K to $150K total Only one proposal per eligible HBCU per competition An HBCU can have an Implementation Project or a Planning Grant at the same time as a Targeted Infusion Project

2 Education Research Projects Support for education research projects that: –Are relevant to the HBCU community –Have the potential to strengthen the STEM education and research programs at HBCUs Example research topics: retention, diffusion of innovations, curricula enhancements, and technology in education. 3 Targeted Infusion Projects Support to implement activities that will result in the achievement of a well defined, measurable goal to enhance STEM education and research –Usually within one department. –PI should be a departmental chair or equivalent Examples of goals: –Specialized accreditation/certification –Establish new programs or certifications –Update programs to reflect advances in the field or industry standards Targeted Infusion Projects are not “mini” Implementation Projects

4 Approximate Deadlines Letter of Intent Due Date: December (early) - Implementation Projects, Planning Grants, Targeted Infusion Projects, and Education Research Projects May - Targeted Infusion Projects (2 nd round) Full Proposal Deadline: January (early) - Implementation Projects, Planning Grants, Targeted Infusion Projects, and Education Research Projects June - Targeted Infusion Projects (2 nd round)
