2 2 High Level Goals Long Term Goals –Shift culture at targeted High Schools to represent a culture of research as a valued asset for learning and instruction –Improve quality and quantity research and inquiry in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses and clubs –Increase participation at targeted High Schools in research competitions by 20% yearly for three years

3 High Level Goals 3 Short Term Goals –Start two research clubs in two Fremont Union High School and one in SCUSD –Develop and implement an elective research course in SCUSD during the school day in 2010-11 –Intel/IISME will establish a resource support bank including: mentors, Best Practices, web resources, curriculum, etc –Intel/IISME Research Collaborative team will utilize science research during instruction

4 4 Objectives Measures of Success –Increase number of students participating in research: clubs, courses, competitions 20% yearly for three years –Online resource community accessed by all collaborative participants as measured by a participation survey –Increase inquiry projects within the classroom by 50% for collaborative teams based on self report

Replication of the course in subsequent years (2011 and 2012) District/Site Leadership Craig Young Fall 2010, 2011, 2012 Intel/IISME will establish a resource support bank including: mentors, Best Practices, web resources, curriculum, etc Development of a communication tool for all collaborative teachers to have access to this list and if mentors stick with the projects they are supporting. 7 7 Intel ISEF Educator Academy Reflection Highlights of Educators Academy –Creativity and depth of students projects –Students often address a topic that is meaningful to them –Impressed with the rigor of the projects internationally –Bringing teachers in on Wednesday to help with buy-in Beneficial Shop Talks –Amanda Alonzo –Theresa Clark –Lois Fruen Missing Shop Talk Topics –More formal and informal time needed to collaborate with International participants –How to address schools and teachers questions about limited commitment and funding concerns. –Open the online community to the teachers on their day –Make sure the teacher day falls at a time when teachers can access the floor
