2 TKAM Vocabulary List #2 1.feeble adj.: weak; frail Ex: Although Mrs. Duboses body was very feeble her spirit was strong. 2.gingerly adv.: carefully; cautiously. Ex: Jem gingerly tiptoed onto the Radleys front porch trying hard to not make a sound. 3.peril n.: danger. Ex: The children found themselves in great peril after they noticed someone following them home in the dark.

3 4.escapade n.: reckless prank or adventure. Ex: The childrens escapade included peeking in Boo Radleys window and trying to pass him a note with a fishing pole. 5.infuriated v.: angered greatly. Ex: Mr. Ewell was infuriated when he saw Tom and Mayella together. 6.oppressive adj.: overbearing; hard to put up with. Ex: Scout frequently found Calpurnias rules to be oppressive.

4 7.rectitude n.: uprightness of character. Ex: Atticus Finch was known in the community of Maycomb for his rectitude. 8.tirade n.: a long angry speech. Ex: Miss Caroline gave the class a tirade on how to read properly. 9.undulate v. to move in waves or in a wavy manner. Ex: Jem sat in his tree-house and watched the branches undulate in the wind.

5 10.appalling adj.: shocking; horrifying Ex: Stephanie Crawford thought the actions of Boo Radleys were appalling. 11.curtness n.: briefness, short and to the point. Ex: Atticus was surprised by the curtness of the witnesss responses. 12.soberly adv. seriously. Ex: Atticus soberly informed Tom Robinson of the verdict.

6 13.antagonize v.: oppose; make angry. Ex: Dont you antagonize that crazy man, Dill!said Miss Crawford. 14.manacles n. handcuffs. Ex: Heck Tate led the defendant away in manacles. 15.taut adj.: tightly stretched. Ex: Jem could not escape because his pants were pulled taut in the wire fence.
