7. “Cyberinfrastructure” is a term often used in two rather different contexts. 8. For the rest of us, “cyberinfrastructure” is a term more commonly associated with the NSF (National Science Foundation) and its Office of Cyberinfrastructure, and with documents such as Revolutionizing Science and Engineering Through Cyberinfrastructure, “Atkins’s Report.”

Cyberinfrastructure consists of computational systems, data and information management, advanced instruments, visualization environments, and people, all linked together by software and advanced networks to improve scholarly productivity and enable knowledge breakthroughs and discoveries not otherwise possible.
