2. “I think it was a lot easier to write a book knowing what the grade one student wanted. When my grade one student told me what to write about it was difficult because I didn’t know much about Spiderman. So I had to do a little research. I think this is a valid genre for the grade 11 curriculum because we should have good enough writing skills for a grade one to understand. The best part was seeing [the grade one student’s] face after I read the book. And the worst part was drawing all the pictures. I learned that artists and writers have a hard career.”

4. “There was no real bad experiences during the whole thing. We learned to be better writers even though it was a relatively small writing assignment. [The interview] made it easier because we knew what [our grade one] liked so we could write about it, but it also made it harder because [he] wanted to be a superhero, a doctor, and a policeman at the same time. We made [him] a doctor and his best friend a policeman who became superheroes.”

6. “I also learned that it is hard to write for a child in general...The best part of the project was putting our book together, with all the stickers and colourful papers, seeing the final project was really cool.” “I would say the best part of this experience was reading the product and the worst was writing the story. I believe I learned that writing for someone else’s enjoyment is harder than I thought. Also writing for a grade one limited the amount of complex words I could use. However this children’s book was a pretty good assignment and I liked it in the end.”
