1 PSU Insurance Requirement Overview & Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan  PSU requires all domestic students taking 5 or more in-load credits (1 credit for international students) to have major medical insurance.  Once students enroll for the appropriate number of credits they are automatically enrolled in the PSU Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan and their student account is charged.  If a student has comparable health insurance, they may waive out of the student plan.

4 Who is Eligible for the PSU Plan?  All Domestic students taking 5 or more in-load credits (non-restricted differential credits may not count towards eligibility and it is the student’s responsibility to verify types of credits).  All International students taking 1 or more credits.  If you take a term off, or are less than the eligible credit load, you will lose your insurance unless it is a medical withdrawal.

5 How Much Does it Cost?  Fall Term = $694  Winter Term = $694  Spring/Summer = $694 (Summer coverage is included in Spring’s cost regardless of graduating, traveling, or taking classes)  Dependent coverage is not available for domestic students’dependents due to high cost.

6 Students with Comparable Coverage* may waive out of the PSU Plan (once per academic year) *Comparable Coverage:  Must have deductible of $2,500 or less  Must have at least 80% of inpatient hospitalization  Oregon Health Plan is considered “comparable” Please note: Students can get back on the student plan if they lose their outside health coverage and are above 5 credits.

7 How Do I Waive Out of the PSU Plan?  You should wait at least 72 hours after you register so you are in the database.  Online waiver takes less than 5 minutes  Have your insurance information nearby for reference.
