2 Why be a Disciple of Jesus? I Pet. 2:21-25

3 2 Cor. 4:5 For we preach not ourselves but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for Jesus sake!

4 “And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” Acts 11:26b We want everyone at O’Neal to be a Christian! In the Bible we read:

5 What would we have to do and say to get you to obey God?

6 1 Peter 2:21-25 21 For even hereunto were ye called:

7 1. Because Christ also suffered for us, 2. Leaving us an example, 3. T hat ye should follow his steps:

8 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

9 What the Lord has done for us.. Telling you what the Lord hath done for us, Telling you what the Lord hath done for us, Would that cause you to come a Christian?Would that cause you to come a Christian? 10 1. We owed a debt that we could not pay… He paid it for us!1. We owed a debt that we could not pay… He paid it for us! 2. We were sinners..when God commended his love to us Rom. 5:8,9

11 3. We know it was his blood that was shed for us to be saved. I Pet. 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: What can wash away my sins, nothing but the Blood of Jesus!

12 Leaving us an example, Telling you what the Lord did.. would that cause you to want to become a Christian? Jesus is the perfect example to follow.. Heb. 12:1-2 I Cor. 11:1 ‘Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ Gal. 6:14..save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Many good men mentioned in the Bible.

13 1. Abraham. Gen. 12:1-3; Gen. 22:1ff 2. Moses. Num.12:3. Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all men that were on the face of the earth 3. Joshua. Joshua 24:15 As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

14 That we should follow his steps Heb. 12:1-2 Telling you He is the ONE to follow... 1. Matt. 4:1-11 To be tempted of the devil. “It is written” 2. To be ridiculed…mocked. “If thou be the Son of God…….No if about it…He is and was and shall always be!.Mtt.17:1-5 3. To be forsaken by his own chosen Disciples. “All forsook him.” Mark 14:50 And they all forsook him, and fled.

15 He is our example… We can TRUST HIM!

16 What Christ tells us… 1. To flee sin. I John 2:1-2 Quit it! Hate it! 2. To help others. Gal. 6:10 “Ladies Bible Class… the small classes…sending get well cards to those who are sick for a long time… Matt. 25:31-46 3. To be kind and good. Eph. 4:32 4. To be a worker for the Lord. John 9:4.

17 He did NO sin! Not one sin’…ever!. Neither was guile found in his mouth…. One version says, “any deceit”.. He was always truthful, and spoke only the Truth. John 8:32; John 17:20,21; Prov. 23:23

18 Every day should bring us closer to our Lord… Leave this service today 1. Glad…( Acts 3:6,7 ) like the lame man at the gate called beautiful..who was healed. 2. Not Mad… not like Cain…who slew his brother. Gen. 4:8. 3. Not Bad…. Like the Pharisee in Luke 18:14 4. Not Sad..When you reject Jesus, you will always leave Sad. Rich young ruler..Matt. 19:22

19 Come as you are, but don’t leave like you came! Do something about your soul! Now. 2Cor. 6:2

20 Here is what you have to do to become a Disciple of Christ Hear the Word of God. Romans 10:17

21 Believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. John 8:24

22 Repent. Turn, make a change for the Lord.. Acts 17:30,31

23 Confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God! Mtt. 10:32,33

24 Be Baptized. Acts 22:16 I Pet. 3:21 Acts 18:8 Like the Corinthians Acts 2:38-41 Like the people on Pentecost Acts 8:36-39 Like the Eunuch

25 Live faithfully, serving the Lord. Rev. 2:10 I Cor. 15:58

26 1 Kings 18:21 “And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.”

27 Why not Now become a Disciple of Christ!
