9 Many families became migrant. By 1930 3 million kids were not going to school Moving from place to place in search of jobs. 7

10 Man in hobo jungle killing turtle to make soup Many of the poor would eat them. They would make souvenirs & try to sell them.

12 Things still good in Texas 1930- Big oil discovery in East Texas. 9

13 Texans elect new governor Ross Sterling 1932- 300,000 Texans were unemployed.

14 Soup kitchens & breadlines helped give out food.

15 Overproduction of East Texas oil fields. Barrel of oil $1.00 to.08

16 Crop prices drop. Prices drop to.06 a pound.

17 Too much farming & ranching in Great Plains caused soil erosion. Drought caused soil to be dry & loose.

18 Wind would cause huge clouds of dust. Worst storms = black blizzards. 1935 Black Blizzard blocked out the sun in Amarillo for 11 hours.
