4 REQUIREMENTS Graduate from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) credited University or College. Top Schools University of California at Berkley University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Georgia Institute of Technology Purdue University at West Lafayette Stanford University Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam The exam is open to anyone with a degree in engineering or a related field, or currently enrolled in the last year of an ABET- accredited engineering degree program. Obtain several years of engineering experience under the supervision of a licensed engineer, then pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam.  After completing these steps and the granting of licensure by a State Board, engineers may use the title "Professional Engineer" or PE in advertising and documents.
