3 PHLEBOTOMY PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The word “phlebotomy” comes from the Greek and Latin and means to excise or cut into the vein. Phlebotomists literally cut into veins to remove blood, however our instrument is very small and our cuts almost microscopic.

4 Many people have their blood drawn before surgery, during pregnancy or when they donate blood at a blood bank. However the history of phlebotomy comes from “bloodletting. Bloodletting was done for centuries to rid the human body of evil spirits and illnesses.

5 Today the ART of phlebotomy is taught to healthcare workers so that your next blood draw experience at the hospital, laboratory or doctor’s office is a safe and pleasant one and so that your blood is treated properly to insure the best and most accurate results are given to your physician.

6 In our program, we don't require that you take several non- related courses - we focus on the core curriculum needed for a phlebotomy certificate.
