5 Warm Up cont’d Create a Map –Goals: process vs. outcome, combo –SMARTS –Goals for self, child, “team” –Facilitate vs. impose –Ink it, don’t think it

6 Coaching Corner Principles of behavior change –Foster motivation –80-90% of reinforcement positive –Issue of punishment –Avoid Don’ts –5:1 ratio positive to negative –Sandwich technique –Does not work: criticism, intimidation, sarcasm, guilt, physical punishment (sprints in 90 degrees)

10 Scrimmage Mental Skill: Focus –How many times in a day can you notice your own strengths/ child’s strengths and make a comment about it?

11 Drill Resolving Conflicts –Say something is important, but not showing it –Conflict=stress –Communication skills Sandwich technique Take out the mouth guard Take off the helmet

12 Cool Down Good self care as a parent “coach” Mindful of your own goals Care of your relationships Care of your physical needs Riding the waves- process not outcome Get support
