2 There are 6 Tasks to compete on the following slides, ALL 6 must be completed. You can use a variety of styles to complete each task: Interviews Short reviews or reports Make diary entries Draw or sketch Create a script or TV presentation The 6 tasks will make up a project which must be handed into your teacher on the date given in class. At the end of the 6 tasks there is a slide which has useful sources and websites, which you can use to help you complete the tasks. If you find any other links or books which are great let us know so we can add them in!

3 Buddhists believe that when the Dalai Lama dies he is reincarnated (born again in a new body). So when the 13 th Dalai Lama of Tibet died the search began for the 14 th Dalai Lama. A party of senior monks found a small boy in a small village in the North-East of Tibet and claimed he was the 14 th Dalai Lama. Your task, Think about: How the new Dalai Lama found. How he was tested to make sure he was the next Dalai Lama. If your son was recognised as the next Dalai Lama how would you feel?

4 The Dalai Lama had a very different upbringing to what you would be used to. He lived in a big palace called Potala Palace and did not have many friends. Your Task, think about: What the Dalai Lama did everyday Who he made friends with If you had a child would you raise them the same way? What would you do different?

5 Buddhists believe in reincarnation. They believe that when you die you are reborn into another body, just like the 13 th Dalai Lama was reborn into the body of the 14 Th Dalai Lama. Your Task Create a story in which you imagine you have been reincarnated and can remember your past life. Do you think reincarnation is possible?

6 When China invaded Tibet in 1950 life was hard for the Tibetans who lived there. The Chinese soldiers who invaded started to abuse the human rights of the Tibetan people. Your Task, think about: How the Chinese treated the Tibetans How life changed for the Tibetans. Examples of Human rights The Organisation Amnesty International and their fight to try and protect human rights across the world. Do you think we can have too many human rights? Why?

7 When the Dalai Lama visited Chairman Mao, the leader of China in Beijing, Mao said “religion is poison.” Is this true? Your Task Using the internet or newspaper articles or any other sources think about religion in the news, is it poison? Is religion bad? Do you think religion causes people not to like each other?

8 Mandalas are very important to Tibetan Buddhists. Your task is to research what a Mandala is, why it is important and give an example of one – you might even want to try and draw one!
