ADELAIDE DARWIN MELBOURNE PERTH WHYALLA www.wallbridgeandgilbert.com.au Page 1 Metropolitan Local Government Group Recycled Water Scheme For Metropolitan Adelaide Opportunities and Constraints Presented by Nathan Silby

ADELAIDE DARWIN MELBOURNE PERTH WHYALLA www.wallbridgeandgilbert.com.au Page 2 Recycled Stormwater Harvest Volumes o Current – 8 GL/annum o Committed – 13 GL/annum o Proposed – 10 GL/annum USHOS 6.2, 11.6, 8.8 – 26.6 GL/a “Water For Good” targeted capture and harvest of 35 GL/annum by 2025

ADELAIDE DARWIN MELBOURNE PERTH WHYALLA www.wallbridgeandgilbert.com.au Page 3 Sewage 85 GL/annum currently produced in the greater Adelaide area. Approximately 25 GL/annum is reused. Storage requirement 40 GL (Hope Valley + Happy Valley 14 GL)

ADELAIDE DARWIN MELBOURNE PERTH WHYALLA www.wallbridgeandgilbert.com.au Page 4 Recycled Stormwater v’s Treated Effluent Combined potential yield ≈ 140 GL/annum 75% of Adelaide's current mains water supply, (≈ 180 GL/a) & 40% of the predicted 2050 supply (≈360 GL/a). Demand for non-potable water less than potential supply – prioritisation of treated wastewater v's stormwater required. (Council irrigation Demand 5 GL/a)

ADELAIDE DARWIN MELBOURNE PERTH WHYALLA www.wallbridgeandgilbert.com.au Page 5 Distribution Networks A number of constructed, committed & proposed networks across metro Adelaide. Connection between networks to provide reliability of supply across council boundaries.

ADELAIDE DARWIN MELBOURNE PERTH WHYALLA www.wallbridgeandgilbert.com.au Page 12 Issues Moving Forward Assessment of the tertiary aquifers capacity to store expected volumes of stormwater. Use of treated stormwater as a source of potable water. Interconnection between council networks (operation, liability, benefits) Funding
