2.  Students will review their knowledge on the 4 major environmental topics covered in Chapter #2

3.  Change from mixed to mono crop  Intensive applications of fertilizers & pesticides.  Increase in the use of hybrid seeds

4.  Globalization of wood products industry.  Increasing clearing of land for soybean / cattle grazing.  Relief of population pressure from established areas.

5.  Changes in major agricultural areas.  Increase in sea levels.  Melting of polar ice caps.  Changes in rainfall patterns.

6.  Water is an essential element for life and good health.  Water scarcity currently affects 1 in 3 people and as populations continue to grow the problem will only get worse.  Source: WHO

7.  Ironically, given the severe global water shortages, floods cause the most deaths of all natural disasters.  Settlement patterns of human beings and deforestation are two reasons for this fact.
