1 Videos and Questions

2 Aqua http://aqua.nasa.gov/reference/visualizations.ph phttp://aqua.nasa.gov/reference/visualizations.ph p Launch separation sequence, 4.2MB.mov Launch sequence, 1.8MB.mov what are the small white things shot when the Rocket is launched? Why need to do it? are the pictures taken by spaceshuttle? whar are the names of each object that is dropped off step by step from main Aqua part?

3 EOS Aqua Instrument Sensing http://aqua.nasa.gov/doc/viz/media/aqua_instruments.mpg the spinning 'ornament' in the front of Aqua is AMSR-E, which is a conically-scanning passive microwave radiometer, that is used for sea ice extent and concentration, SST, wind speed over the ocean, precipitation over land and ocean, and, to some extent, 'soil moisture' though really for sparsely vegetated surfaces (like the desert southwest). Because it is microwave, conically scanning means that it rotates so that its view angle with respect to the Earth surface is fixed (say 55°) for constant emission. Also, because it is microwave, every frequency it measures (from 6 to 90 GHz) has a different spatial resolution. The higher the frequency, the smaller the wavelength (naturally), and the smaller the instantaneous field of view. (King, email Nov. 18, 2009)

6 Aqua AMSU AIRs The AIRS on Aqua is the first AIRS instrument and a major advance over earlier sounders flow in space. AIRS measures atmospheric temperatures, humidities, and a host of other products, in order to improve weather forecasting and the understanding of climate processes. This artist's concept animation shows the AIRS instrument measuring air temperatures at five levels in the atmosphere, each level indicated by a separate color.
