2 2 Kazakhstan has achieved a high status in the field of gender policy among the countries of the CIS, Asian and Turkic-speaking community. With the purpose of formation and execution of integrated state policies with regard to family and equality between men and women, the National Committee on the issues of women and family and demographic policies of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan was created in 2006 by the decree of the President of RK. Starting 2006, the Gender Equality Strategy in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2006-2016 is being executed.

3 3 The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan In 2009, the President signed the Law "On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women", developed by the initiative of the deputies of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of RK and supported by the OSCE, UNIFEM, UNDP. With the purpose of prevention of domestic violence, there was adopted the Law of RK “On Prevention of Domestic Violence” in 2010. At present, there are 21 crisis centers operating to help victims of domestic violence.

4 4 The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan Currently, the Parliament of RK has 21 women deputies (14%), 4 women working as vice-akims of the regions; three regions are headed by women. Among the vice-akims of the regions - 17% are women. In rural and village districts - 11%. At the top level of authority - in the government of the country – we have 3 women Ministers, 1 deputy head of the Office of the Prime Minister, 4 executive secretaries, 5 vice-ministers. In general, 58% of the public service is represented by women, on the decision-making level - 9.5%. There was created a Republican network of Women's Leadership Schools, which includes 69 NGOs from all regions of the country. The project aimed to establish clubs of women-politicians in the regions is being implemented. There are currently clubs operating in 6 regions.

5 5 The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan In 2003, the National Committee signed an Agreement of Cooperation with the Republican Fund of Development of Small Entrepreneurship aimed at economical promotion of women. There was adopted the Program on the development of women’s entrepreneurship in the RK for 2009-2015. The issue of introduction of the legal norm regarding obligatory gender analysis of the legal acts is being currently discussed.

6 6 The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan From January 1, 2008 up to 2010, there had been executed the Program on elimination of maternal and child mortality in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2010, there was adopted a new State Program for the Development of health care system in the Republic of Kazakhstan for the years of 2011-2015 “Salamatty Kazakhstan” which targets decrease of the levels of maternal and infant mortality. Integrated educational program “Gender” has been designed for the school and pre-school educational systems. The gender subject is included in the State general education requirements for the 12 year education in Kazakhstan.
