How search engines work Search engines index websites using automatic programs called webcrawlers. The search engine creates a database of websites and organizes it. Each search engine has a different formula and method for organizing and indexing keywords and search terms.

How search engines work Websites are cached (stored) either in part or whole. Each different engine has a unique technique for ranking returned results. Some aggregate search engines compile results from other search engines, resulting in the best variety.
