3 The West Virginia Board of Education believes that: Parent involvement at early childhood, middle and adolescent levels is absolutely fundamental to a healthy system of public education Strong partnerships between homes and schools are needed if a quality education, appropriate for the 21 st century is to be provided to all children Parent Involvement: 21 st Century Commitment

4 Research is clear…students with involved parents, no matter what their income or background, are more likely to: Earn higher grades and test scores Attend school regularly Have better social skills and adapt well to school Graduate and go on to postsecondary education Parent Involvement: Research-based

6 Strategic Partnerships Partnering with RESAs to offer Regional Parent Academies: Focused on Welcoming School Environment/Linking Families to Learning Training for Parent contacts and central office contacts Self Assessment on current PAC status Partnering with Title I to support schools on improvement: Two follow-up trainings focused on data analysis and high yield strategies for improving PAC Partnering to promote Community of Practice: Three Pilot programs that receive intense support and professional development Partnering to Promote 21st Century Learning
