Meeting the Demands for Vital Statistics: The Challenges of Collecting, Preparing, and Promoting Baltimore, MD May 31 st – June 4 th, 2009 Additional Results from Investigations EPIC confiscated 1,056 fraudulent birth certificates involving 11 states Kansas Vital Records conducted record searches on each of the 830 certificates, flagging and protecting all valid records Created master list of fake records Kansas SRS discovered 55 families receiving assistance based on fraudulent birth certificates Estimated loss of $2,000,000 annually
