Measuring body temperature The skin and the temperature regulatory centre in the brain constantly adjust the body temperature to keep it within a narrow range. The body core temperature is the temperature of the internal organs. Measuring pulse rate and ECG As blood is pumped out from the heart by the contraction of the left ventricle, it causes a rhythmic expansion and recoil in the arteries. This can be detected as a pulse in the major arteries.
