(describing a verb) Joel is a fairly good ball player. (describing an adjective) Our guest left quite abruptly. (describing another adverb) Adverbs answer the following questions: How? When? Where? To what extent? How much? How long? The prime minister spoke carefully. The police arrived promptly. The fire started here. We should never become upset.
