Five Chapters that can change your life! (If you let it) Hebrews 6-10

It is interesting to note that the book of Hebrews seems to be an great appeal on why Jesus Christ is the true High Priest, and why the New Covenant is superior to the old. For a church that is mainly made up of Gentiles for the last 1700 years, I really think this significance is overlooked. We really have nothing in our heritage today that compares to this.

Perhaps that is why a lot of teachers leave the book alone. As Gentiles, we do not have a recent history of blood sacrifices and high priests. Blood sacrifice seems distant and barbaric and having High priests trigger images of cultic practices. Most of us just can’t relate.

Yet the word “priest” or a form of it, occurs 156 times in the 27 chapters of the book of Leviticus in the Old Testament. And it occurs 34 times in the 13 chapters of Hebrews in the New Testament. The word “blood” occurs 66 times in Leviticus and 19 times in Hebrews.

This inability to comprehend the priesthood and the blood, creates a soft view of sin and a soft way to remove it. Yet the word says; that the wages of (any) sin is DEATH (Rom 6:23). We have a confused remedy for sin, with an apology based system. Which the word does not teach. Without the shedding of blood there is NO forgiveness (Heb 9:22).

The author’s intense focus and appeals, seem to indicate something very important that we may not have realized. The whole of Hebrews seem to be, summed up in these next passages. As we move through chapters 6-10, keep this in the forefront of your thinking.

Heb 8:1) Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2) a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.

3) For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this One also have something to offer.

Heb 9:11) But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12) Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

The whole of Hebrews seem to be; believe and hold fast to the truth that Jesus Christ is now our High Priest and His death was the only sacrifice for our sins through faith. And this is the only way to be forgiven. Note these: Heb 5:9) And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,

10) called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,” 11) of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. Perhaps over the centuries the church has become dull of hearing?
