Tips for Receiving Guests Wear clothes that suit you, and fit in with the industry you are in. When greeting a client, stand up. Don’t sit and look up at the client. Be approachable. When greeting customers, always smile and be friendly. Ask them if they would mind waiting a few minutes, while you get hold of the right person to assist with the matter. If necessary, offer them a beverage while they wait. In most organizations, visitors will spend some time in the reception area before being met by the executive. As one of secretary’s jobs, which is very important for you to receive people properly, make them feel comfortable and deal with them professionally.
