4 Across the United States, research has shown that students in schools with good school libraries learn more, get better grades, and score higher on standardized test scores than their peers in schools without libraries. From Alaska to North Carolina, more than 60 studies have shown clear evidence of this connection between student achievement and the presence of school libraries with qualified school library media specialists. U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science

5 School Library Journal published an article entitled, School Librarians Can Help Increase Nation’s Report Card Reading Scores. This article supports that 80% of students who checked out books and read independently for enjoyment at least once or twice a week scored higher on national tests than their counterparts.

6 The American Libraries Association posted a study, The Impact of New York’s School Libraries on Student Achievement and Motivation. It stated that those schools appropriately staffed and well funded showed more student academic growth than schools with lack of staff and underfunded libraries.
