2 ® 2 The Profile of the IT Community in Romania  The IT has a tradition of approx. 50 years (first computer produced in 1957)  Every year 5000 IT specialists graduate from the state Educational system  Romania is ranked no. 2 for the no. of IT specialists in Europe after UK  The rate of emigration is 6-7% (below the European average of 8%)  Rich language skills: English (majority), French (15% of total population), German (10% of total population), Magyar (10%), Slavic languages (Serbian/Croat/Bulgarian/Ukrainian/ Czech/ Slovak), Italian, Turkish,Tatar, Greek  6 major university centers spread across the country  Computer Science research directions:  mathematical basis of Computer Science  Database Technologies  Cryptography Algorithms and Security  Digital graphics software  Computer Manufacturing Industry since 1970

3 ® 3 Romanian Government Policy for IT  Romanian Government has a transparent and equidistant policy towards the development of the IT&C field.  The Parliament has dedicated IT commission that promotes laws for the development of the IT&C  Fiscal facilities in place:  0% tax on salaries for software engineers (in force since 2001) built in the Fiscal Code  Tentative amendment to the Fiscal Code to allow companies to spend 1% off their tax on profit for Educational purposes  Partnerships with relevant industry players:  Oracle  IBM  Cisco  Microsoft Safra Catz Hosts Romania President Traian Basescu at Oracle HQ
