2 Stage 1 goals for Indiana Receive electronic messages from providers using an HHS certified EHR system in a valid HL7 format Message Types Immunizations Syndromic surveillance Electronic lab results Sent directly from EMR, HIOs, or through https upload site. Provide testing for vendor connectivity and message validation

3 Meaningful Use Information Established MU web page as part of the www.IN.gov website General information on then Meaningful Use incentive program Messaging guides for Indiana public health reporting (immunizations, syndromic surveillance and electronic lab results) ONC links and ISDH MU contact info.

4 MU Repository & Web App Used to record provider general information Track provider MU progress Maintain contact lists for HIOs, RECs, hospitals, physician offices, clinics, etc… Provides compliance reports and statistical information Generates “Letter of Compliance” Access recently made available to Indiana HIOs and RECs

5 Children & Hooiser’s Immunization Registry Program (CHIRP) 2007, began accepting HL7 VXU 2.3.1 messages Included 2.5.1 in February 2011 Can accept messages using HTTPS, TCP/IP, file transfer including SFTP, and directly from the state HIOs Established process for new HL7 interface setup EMR vendor test site including; Allscripts, Greenway, E-MDs, GE

6 Public Health Emergency Surveillance System (PHESS) Established first connections in 2005 Currently receiving electronic messages from 124 Hospital ERs from around the state. All data flowing through HIE connections. Have successfully tested ADT messages from 55 provider organizations.

7 2011 Meaningful Use Connections 159 organizations successfully attested in 2011 36 separate EMR vendors submitting data Data received from 3 state HIOs Health Bridge, IHIE, and MHIN 68 providers actively sending to CHIRP (7 are bidirectional) 124 hospitals actively sending to PHESS

8 159 organizations using 36 different EHR Systems

10 Lessons Learned Communication, Communication, Communication Regular calls with HIE & REC partners. Regular meetings with IHIT and Medicaid to insure our efforts are in line with one another. Website with up to date contact information and with easy access to messaging guides. Collaboration between program areas to find solutions to common problems and avoid a duplication of effort.
