2 Advanced Cities Cities were key features of Ancient civilizations.
These cities were more than just collections of people. They were also centers of political, economic, and religious life.

8 Specialized Workers Surplus of food allowed people to specialize in jobs outside of agriculture. Specialized workers such as artisans, traders, and soldiers strengthened and expanded civilization.

14 Complex Institutions Complex institutions such as law codes, religion and an economy were another characteristic of ancient civilizations. They organized, united, and helped civilizations to prosper.

20 Record Keeping and Writing
Each civilization developed a system of writing. Rulers record laws. Priests could write down rituals to follow. Merchants could record trade. Eventually, people used the writing system to record thoughts and ideas, creating literature and correspondence.

26 Advanced Technology The civilizations developed new ways of doing work with new materials to work with, such as metal. They also developed tools like to make work easier, faster or more efficient. They also developed calendars to make the world more orderly.

Make a chart using the five characteristics to describe what type of city it is today. Think of why it is important? Why do people choose to live there? Why people visit the city? Anything else that the city is known for?
