What is Piracy? Art, books, inventions, magazines, movies, music, performances, reports, software, stories, and trademarks are all examples of intellectual property and can represent a substantial investment of resources and talent. Intellectual property can be protected by a copyright, patent, trademark or treated as a trade secret, and some intellectual property can be covered by multiple kinds of protection. Piracy is a theft of intellectual property – in other words, stealing what does not belong to you! intellectual property copyright, patent, trademarkintellectual property copyright, patent, trademark

What is Copyright? A "©" on the work means it is copyrighted Copyright is a form of protection given to the authors or creators of “original works of authorship,” including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic and other intellectual works. What that means is that, as the author of the work, you alone have the right to do any of the following or to let others do any of the following: - make copies of your work ; - distribute copies of your work ; - perform your work publicly (such as for plays, film, dances or music) ; - display your work publicly (such as for artwork, or stills from audiovisual works, or any material used on the Internet or television); an d - make “derivative works” (including making modifications, adaptations or other new uses of a work, or translating the work to another media). In general, it is illegal for anyone to do any of the things listed above with a work created by you without your permission, but there are some exceptions and limitations to your rights. One major limitation is the doctrine of “Fair Use.” Check out “Fair Use”: Fair Use WebsiteFair Use Website

Trademark A property right that protects words, names, symbols, sounds, or colors that distinguish goods and services from those manufactured or sold by others. Trademarks, unlike patents, can be renewed forever as long as they are being used in business. An "®" means it is a registered trademark

Patent Meaning: A document granting an inventor sole rights to an invention.

What is Intellectual Property? Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce. 18 In Summary, Many songs and games on the Internet are free and legal to download, and you can make sure that you download only from sites where the copyright owners have given their permission for their work to be copied freely. Remember, it is just as wrong to steal someone's intellectual property as it is to steal a CD or toy from a store.
