3. Comprehensive Explanation
Implement Advanced Surface Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) Level 2
This objective aims at implementing A-SMGCS Level 2 which consists of an airport surface surveillance system (i.e. A-SMGCS Level 1) complemented by an A-SMGCS control tool to detect potential conflicts on runways and intrusions into restricted areas and provide the controllers with appropriate alerts;
The applicability area is presented in Table 8 of Part IV Annex B of the ESSIP 2012 document;

ASP01 - Equipment that meets agreed performance requirements and specifications of A-SMGCS Level 2 is installed;
ASP02 - Controllers training in accordance with agreed training requirements and programme have been completed;
ASP03 - Local procedures have been developed, implemented, approved/certified and are being used by controllers at airports equipped with A-SMGCS Level 2.
