2 Louisiana’s forward command centers located in Grand Isle, Venice and Hopedale for field staff. Approximately 200 LDWF staff on the coast at all times patrolling waters, beaches and islands. 100 Fisheries biologists 80 Enforcement agents 35 Wildlife biologists 150 Boats with air support 9 Public Information & Outreach staff Overview

3 Agents inspect vessels fishing in closed areas and return all caught seafood to the water. Seafood returned to the water (7/14/10) - 23,385 pounds of shrimp (12,680 returned in federal waters) - 288 trout - 535 pounds crabs - 13 red drum - 8 mangrove snapper - 1 southern flounder - 1 cobia - 340 pounds of various fish (federal waters) - 115 sacks of oysters. Management & Assessment

4 Biologists are on the water every day in Louisiana’s seven coastal bay systems and offshore scouting for oiled wildlife and habitats. Collected approximately 1,000 fisheries tissue samples comprised of approximately 20,000 individual animals. (7/10/10)

5 Birds - 3,766 total birds collected within five-state impact area (LA, MS, AL, FL, TX) (7/21/10) Species & Habitat Impact

6 Louisiana Bird Collections 2,037 total birds processed through Fort Jackson rehabilitation center in Buras, LA. - 1,008 collected alive - 1,029 DOA or euthanized after unsuccessful rehabilitation

7 Marine Life 709 sea turtles collected in the five-state impact zone - 108 collected in Louisiana 67 dolphin collected from the five-state impact area, all DOA. - 37 dolphins from Louisiana waters

8 Bird Releases (7/21/10) - 484 birds treated and released

9 FIRST POINT OF CONTACT FOR ALL MEDIA REQUESTS. More than 400 media requests received and accommodated through LDWF alone. 12 Fisheries staff with Jeff Corwin on a live turtle rescue. PIO Joel Courtney documented all department activities with video ranging from enforcement activities to seafood sampling.

13 Vanity Fair covering turtle rescue with LDWF fisheries and enforcement staff. LDWF biologist Mike Carloss with HBO film crew for a documentary on the department’s role in the oil spill recovery.
