3 A landscape architecture needs have a good eye for detail and a comprehensive understanding of the arts and a humanistic approach to design. The ability to analyze problems in terms of design and physical form and the ability to translate ones vision into solid form is a must. Good communication skills with clients and workers are especially important in developing a design project to the standards and expectations of the clientele. Qualities and Skills

4 Graduates with a B.L.A. degree can expect to start at a base salary of $25,000 to $30,000 with annual increases. A practicing landscape architect with three to seven years experience can expect to make $30,000 or more. Salary

5 Much outdoor work is required in overseeing the completion of the project Indoor computer and design work is necessary Hours vary depending on job size and deadlines Will likely be working with and supervising a crew of people Work Environment

6 Becoming a Landscape Architect A formal education is essential to gain the required skills and knowledge. Professional education in landscape architecture can be obtained at the undergraduate or graduate level. There are two undergraduate professional degrees: a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) and a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (BSLA). These usually require four or five years of study in design, construction techniques, art, history, natural and social sciences.
